Welcome to Wardington House’s latest newsletter.
As I await inspiration for this monthly newsletter to arrive, (it normally does so last minute) I can’t help but notice the Garden Party preparations taking place all around the home, beginning to create excitement. It reminded me of Vincent Van Gogh’s wonderful quote above, as everyone at Wardington House contributes through a ‘series of small’ (and not so small) jobs, contributions and kindness to ensure the residents, families, staff and friends have a great day. We very much appreciate everyone’s support and look forward to seeing you there!
Activities
Another good example of Vincent Van Gogh’s quote is the Bodicote Bellringers. We had a lovely afternoon listening to the familiar songs they played in a mesmerising manner. Their performance is always a pleasure to listen to.

We timed our summer themed activities well with the hot weather. The non-alcoholic summer punch the residents made out on the patio was ravishingly refreshing and fun to make.

Another fun activity that took place on the patio was making miniature gardens. Some residents put a lot of thought into these cute little creations and were proud of what they had created. Some residents preferred to watch and soak up the shade and social atmosphere. It was lovely!

And I’m sure you would agree that summer is not summer without a clotted cream tea. These delicious delights were enjoyed at our summer themed coffee morning.

Emma’s Update

“While passing I took this photo of the pinks and oranges in the flower bed near to the back gate as this colour combination always reminds me of those fruit salad sweets from my childhood. It got me thinking that many of the plants can look like sweets (I’m either on a lower budget than Monty Don with his jewel garden or just more peckish than him).
There are lovely yellows reminiscent of sherbet lemons. Frothy pink candy floss roses and peonies, and traditional lollipop alliums. Do flowers remind you of anything other than flowers? I suppose some can be jewels, some sweets and like this beautiful hydrangea – a kaleidoscope of butterflies.

The cut flower garden has really shot up in the last month and we’ve had our first bunch of sweet peas that looked gorgeous and smelled absolutely divine.

Most of the work we’ve been doing recently has been in preparation for the garden party trying to make everything look its best for the highlight in our year. The brief is everything neat and tidy all at the same time which is always a challenge in an environment that is constantly changing and is not helped by the weather swinging between epic rain storms thunder lightning and gales, and intense heatwaves. We muddle through and do our best, perhaps paying extra close attention to the weeds located in the shade during the latter.”
The Month Ahead
With the Garden Party taking place we thought ‘In the Garden’ would be a suiting theme to the start of the month. Like yourselves, we will be taking advantage of the glorious weather and spending more time outdoors. Some of our regular activities, like singing with Tristan Pate will hopefully take place on the patio. We also will be flower arranging with the flowers from the lovely garden and enjoying the scents from the herb garden. We will also be creating egg shell cress heads which I’m sure will create some chuckles.
In the middle of the month the Commonwealth Games starts, therefore this will be our theme for the remaining time in the month. With the games taking place in Glasgow a Scottish themed coffee morning will be taking place. We will hopefully have a go at some of the athletics on the lawn, substituting the javelin with a bean bag I think.
Talking of our lawn, we look forward to welcoming back the Mini Moments Ponies on Tuesday 7th July at 1.30pm, who will be pleased to have a stroll (and nibble) around the lawn.
Did you know it was World Chocolate Day on the 8th July. What an excuse to have chocolate! As the trifle making went down a treat we will be making chocolate trifles that morning. Delicious!
We also have the British Motor Museum visiting us on Tuesday 14th July at 1.30pm. They will be bringing their memorabilia which always ignites interests. This time they are also bringing along a classic car from the 1950’s, which will be exciting to see.
Another vehicle that will hopefully visit this month on National Ice Cream day (on the 20th July) is the ice cream van.
The following regular activities will also take place this month: singing with Tristan Pate (weekly) and Katie Holland (monthly); Exercise Classes with Alfie (fortnightly); Josie the PAT dog (fortnightly); afternoon tea at Harley Equestrian Cafe (monthly); morning coffee and cake at Wardington Garden Centre (fortnightly); in-house Church Services (weekly) and Pamper Mornings.
