Facilities at Wardington House

Wardington House offers comfort and person-centred care helping residents to enjoy their lives and retain as much independence and freedom as is practicable.

Our environment is designed to support the independence, comfort and wellbeing of people living with dementia. Freedom of movement involves risk but our long experience is that the benefits of improved mobility and sense of well-being far outweigh the risks.

We welcome families and visitors at any time convenient to the person they are visiting. We have hosted special birthday parties and a wedding ceremony.

A home full of character and comfort

Built from Hornton stone in 1785 and set in a peaceful Oxfordshire village, Wardington House is a former country house. Over the years it has been carefully modernised and extended, preserving its character while meeting the complex needs of our residents. It is fitted with a sprinkler system to protect residents.

The layout of the home is open and accessible. The doors of the home are open all the time unless it is dark or raining heavily. Residents are free to move freely throughout the house and secure gardens. This freedom of movement supports both physical and emotional wellbeing, offering space, dignity and independence.

Most residents enjoy company and spend their day in our sitting rooms or gardens.

Bedrooms: Bright, spacious and personalised

All bedrooms are light and airy, with low windows and most have views over the surrounding Oxfordshire countryside. Every room can be personalised — we encourage families to bring the resident’s own furniture, pictures and belongings to help make the resident’s bedroom feel truly theirs.

Each room at Wardington House has its own character. Some are as large as twenty five square metres with their own assisted bathrooms. They suit someone who wants to bring their favorite pieces of furniture. Smaller rooms suit people with limited mobility who can easily walk around the room.

Residents can hang pictures on their bedroom walls and bring their own rugs if they wish. We have developed special bedroom door locks that stop other people entering another resident’s room. If needed we use technology that will alert us if a resident leaves their bed or room at night.

With our agreement, some residents have brought their own pets.

Comfortable communal spaces to enjoy

There are three spacious, comfortable, sitting rooms and a dining room on the ground floor, so residents can choose the company and setting that suits them best.

There is a conservatory and several verandas, perfect for relaxing while enjoying views of the garden.

Beautiful, safe, accessible gardens

Surrounding the house are over two acres of beautiful well-maintained gardens. Residents can enjoy strolls through lawns, on paths around the flowerbeds and a rose garden, or sit on the terraces.  The paths are wheelchair-friendly, and seating is available throughout.  The doors to the garden are always open during the day, offering safe, easy access to nature.
