Life at Wardington

Every day, well lived

Life at Wardington House is about more than care — it's about enjoyment, connection and meaningful moments.

We help each resident to live each day as they choose, surrounded by familiar faces and opportunities to engage, relax and simply be themselves.

Our daily approach is rooted in freedom, respect and individuality. Residents can decide how they spend their day — whether that’s joining in with group activities, spending quiet time alone, enjoying the garden or having a chat with another resident or one of our team.

Activities & daily life

We don’t believe in rigid schedules or one-size-fits-all routines. Instead, we offer a wide variety of optional activities and gentle encouragement to take part in ways that feel natural. From reading the paper in a sunny spot to baking biscuits or feeding the chickens, daily life at Wardington is calm, familiar and fulfilling.

We have three spacious sitting rooms, giving residents the choice of where to spend their time, whether in company or enjoying quiet moments. A dedicated activities organiser helps to ensure every day includes opportunities for enjoyment and engagement.

One-to-one time

Individual time and attention matter. Our team takes the time to sit with residents for a chat, look through photo albums, play a favourite song or simply be present. We understand that for people living with dementia, calm companionship can mean more than a packed calendar of events.

Making your room your own

Moving into care is a big step. That’s why we do everything we can to make the transition feel positive.

From bringing in a favourite armchair to hanging family photos on the walls, we encourage residents and families to personalise rooms from day one. It’s all part of helping people feel comfortable, confident and at home.

Creativity & music

Creativity is encouraged in all forms. Residents can enjoy painting, crafting, planting seeds or simply watching others create. Music plays a big part in life at Wardington — from visiting performers and singalongs to spontaneous moments of piano playing.

We often host:

  • Visiting guitarists and classical singers

  • Theatre groups and interactive performances

  • Musical reminiscence sessions

Music brings joy, sparks memory and offers comfort. Many residents respond to it in profound and positive ways.

Chickens, sheep & pets

Wardington House wouldn’t be the same without its resident chickens. They’re a daily delight and often a talking point during walks or visits. Some residents take delight in collecting the eggs and feeding the chickens.

We welcome pets from visiting families, and in some cases, residents may bring their own pets when they move in (by prior agreement).

Entertainment

There’s always something to look forward to at Wardington House. From regular visits by entertainers to seasonal celebrations and local outings, our events calendar is rich and varied.

Past highlights have included performances by brass bands and Morris dancers, visits from alpacas, ponies and other small animals, and much-loved annual events like our garden party and Christmas festivities. Birthdays are always celebrated, often with cake and family joining in, and the ice cream van is a welcome treat on warmer days.

Residents also enjoy trips out in our own minibus — from countryside drives to pub lunches and café visits — bringing added variety and joy to everyday life.
