Our Values and Ethos

Over 60 years of outstanding care

At Wardington House, our approach to dementia care is built on compassion, respect and individuality.

For over 60 years, we’ve created a home where each person is valued for who they are, and not defined by their diagnosis.

A home dedicated to dementia care

Every resident at Wardington House is living with dementia. The focus on caring for people with dementia means that our entire approach — our staff training, daily routines, and environment – is designed specifically to meet the changing needs of each person living with dementia.

Routine tranquillisers or sedative medication are not used. Instead, we build trust between residents and staff , offer gentle encouragement, and respect every individual’s choices.

Freedom and independence

Freedom is at the very centre of our philosophy of care.  Residents are free to move around our house and gardens as they wish. There are no locked doors and mealtimes are flexible too.

Freedom helps residents to maintain their mobility, confidence and a sense of purpose. Doors remain open during the day, unless the weather is very bad, allowing residents to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful views

Continuity and familiar faces

Our nursing team brings decades of collective experience. Most of the staff have worked at Wardington House for over 10 years, and some far longer. We do not use agency staff, which ensures a consistent standard of care and allows meaningful relationships to develop between staff and residents.

Respect and dignity

We focus on helping each resident to live each day as they choose, surrounded by familiar faces and opportunities to engage, relax or simply be themselves.

Our approach is based on respecting each person’s individuality and maintaining their freedom. Residents can decide how they spend their day — whether that is joining in with group activities, spending quiet time alone, enjoying the garden or having a chat with one of our team or fellow residents.

A calm, enriching environment

Wardington House is a place where life is never rushed. Whether enjoying music, potting plants in the garden or reminiscing over family photos, our focus is on creating moments of comfort, connection and joy.

Family-run with heart

As a family-owned and run home since 1965, we believe in personal accountability. There is always someone responsible at the end of the phone who knows our residents and their families. We are proud to combine professional expertise with the warmth of a family setting.
