Cute, colourful, crocus catching some sunshine.
“Crocus of yellow, new and gay;
Mauve and purple, in brave array;
Crocus white
Like a cup of light,-
Hundreds of them smiling up,
Each with a flame in its shining cup,
By the touch of the warm and welcome sun
Opened suddenly – Spring’s begun!”
Welcome to Wardington House’s latest newsletter.
Just in case you haven’t seen the colourful captivating crocus display here at Wardington, the above photo provides just a sneak peek. Every time we go on an outing the residents’ faces light up with shining smiles and cheerful comments are made at their sight. Spring is definitely in the air, making us feel like we have an extra spring in our step and smile in our hearts.
Activities
At the end of January Lucia brought a selection of furry and some not so furry animals for us to enjoy the company of. Some of them brought comfort, others curiosity – it is always a joyful visit.

Also, this month, five British Motor Museum volunteers and a selection of memorabilia joined us for an afternoon, giving the residents’ opportunity to reminisce about the vehicles they owned, drove and places they visited.

Valentine’s Day was celebrated with a coffee morning as well as residents having the opportunity to make some lovely sweet snacks and fabulous flower arrangements.

A few days later the residents were on the go for the annual Pancake Race. With plenty of pancakes and laughs all round the event was ‘flipping fun!’

The televised Winter Olympics in Italy offered a variety of jaw dropping entertainment and interesting conversations with the residents. To contribute to the Olympic feel within the home a couple of residents help make some eye-catching torches which were a talking point for some visiting guests – did you spot them? We also closed the event by holding an Italian sweet treat coffee morning with panettone, cannoli, aragostine and cannoncini – delicious!

Emma’s Update
“February seems to have whizzed by in the blink of an eye, and with it most of the snowdrops. Following closely behind the dazzling daffodils, pretty primroses, fiery flowering quince, and harmonious hellebores are out – adding to the spring is on its way feel.

In the spirit of the new season, nearly upon us, we’ve given the chicken coop a spring clean. This activity certainly doesn’t feature in my list of favourite jobs in the garden, it’s a messy, smelly task pulling the whole thing apart and washing it all down. There is joy though in seeing the chickens living a happy life in a clean home. We were heavily supervised by both the girls and they certainly voiced no complaints. All the bark is replaced with new, each time we do a deep clean, and the old is used around the garden as a mulch for weed suppression.

All those newly washed pots from the last few months are already being put to good use, beginning with a sowing of sweet peas. The green house will soon start filling up.
Seeds planted in pots in the greenhouse.
Of course I can’t forget one of the highlights of the year, The Pancake Race. We always do a tidy before the day to make sure the course (front drive) is photo finish ready.”
The Month Ahead
It feels like the home is going to be as bright and beautiful, in March, as the crocus outside.
Straight away there will be glimpses of yellow, red and green as we celebrate St David’s Day with a coffee morning on Monday 2nd March. Whilst enjoying some welsh goodies, the yellow daffodils, green leeks and the red dragon will be a talking point throughout the morning.
A variety of cosy colours will then join the home at 1.45pm, on Friday 6th March as Lucia’s Tiny Farm joins us with her furry friends.
Not quite as colourful but definitely eye-catching – the Ponies as they walk around the home when they visit us at 2pm on the 10th March.
2pm on the 13th March, we welcome back the Bhangra Dancing with In2Culture. As well as looking at and learning about their brightly coloured outfits we look forward to an afternoon of lively dancing.
On the 15th March I’m sure there will be some more beautifully coloured bouquets around the house for the Mother’s amongst us for Mother’s Day.
On the 16th March, at 2pm, Bodicote Bell ringers will be visiting to provide us with an afternoon of harmonious music.
Green will definitely be the dominant colour on the 17th March as we celebrate St Patrick’s Day with a coffee morning.
Our themes will also be offering a variety of activities with an array of stunning colours. In the beginning of the month you may see some interesting experiments taking place as science is our theme. The 20th March is the Spring Quinox so Spring will be our theme – offering a variety of activities bursting with colour. At the end of the month and into April those shiny metallic Easter egg wrappings will be catching our eyes as we leap into Easter.
The following regular activities will also take place this month: singing with Tristan Pate (weekly) and Katie Holland (monthly); Exercise Classes with Alfie (fortnightly); Josie the PAT dog (fortnightly); afternoon tea at Harley Equestrian Cafe (monthly); morning coffee and cake at Wardington Garden Centre (fortnightly); in-house Church Services (weekly) and Pamper Mornings.
