A fascinating frosty morning at Wardington House.
“When the sun hangs low in the eastern sky,
Caught in the trees that shiver and shy,
Red as the robin that flits nearby,
Sing hey, for a frosty morning!”
(A Frosty Morning by Enid Blyton)
Welcome to Wardington House’s latest newsletter.
Brrrrrr! Yes those spectacular sparkly sunny mornings have arrived, yes the trees may be shivering and shying and yes we are enjoying the beauty of it all in the warmth and comfort of Wardington House. The month ahead will see the sparkle spread around the home as the magic of Christmas arrives – like us I’m sure you can’t wait!
Activities
It hasn’t just been us enjoying the warmth and cosiness of the home. Lucia’s Tiny Farm visit was as heart warming as ever for the residents, with a variety of wonderful small animals keen for us to keep them warm or just snuggle up to.

The calm tortoise is always good company for residents who are a little unsure of animals.
I am sure you were all wrapped up, trying to stay warm at the firework displays to celebrate Bonfire Night earlier in the month. The wonder of Wardington House is that the residents stayed cosy and warm inside the home watching the wonderful Staff Sparkler Display outside.

The residents also enjoyed the fun of the theme with creating firework pictures and making edible sparklers with breadsticks, chocolate and sprinkles.

Many residents joined in making poppy crafts for Remembrance day as well as watching the Remembrance Sunday – Cenotaph Parade on television. On the 11th we had a coffee morning whilst watching the Armistice Day coverage on television and took part in the two minutes silence.

From remembering to reminiscing – it was wonderful to hear so many residents singing along and initiating the singing of nursery rhymes that they sang as children and/or parents. Some were new to us and others were good old classics – can you guess two from the pictures below?

“November has seen our first frosts and called time on any remaining summer cut flowers. We’ve been cutting these back and composting them. We are also removing the summer bedding and planting up troughs and pots with plants for the winter.
Bulbs being planted.
The frosts here look so pretty – the early morning sunshine turns Wardington into a sparkly silver wonderland. It also has the benefit of slowing down the grass growth that up until recently has been growing at lightning speed. With the mowers sitting quiet and still in the barns it frees up time for all the winter project work we have been planning since the summer.

On days when the water in the taps isn’t frozen we are starting to pressure wash the path ways and steps. This is a vital job to remove algae and lichen build up which if left untreated makes the paths very slippery.
We’ve planted up lots of tulips that will be used for cut flowers in the spring. I’m keeping my fingers crossed the squirrels don’t find them as they quite like a tulip bulb as a tasty snack. ”
