Wardington House has specialised in looking after residents with dementia without the use of routine tranquillising medication since the 1970s.
The philosophy of the home is that residents should retain their independence and individuality and be free to choose how they spend their days.
There are no locked doors and residents are free to go out for a walk, unaccompanied, or with assistance, whenever they choose. The home has good perimeter security and closed circuit TV so that residents are safe while they are out and about.
The care is managed by a very experienced team of registered nurses led by our Matron. This means the home is able to care for people suffering from the frailties of older age, as well as dementia. The home is able to care for people till the end of their lives.
The home has high staffing levels and plenty of space, both inside the home and in its surrounding gardens and grounds. All the staff at Wardington House receive specialist training in dementia care. Staff are all local, mostly female, and on average they work at the home for ten years. This means they become very experienced and skillful and get to know each resident very well. The home uses no agency staff.
