It has long been recognised that music can help people with dementia in many ways. Music can evoke memories from the past, trigger a sense of wellbeing, improve cognition, speech and non-verbal communication.
The home has musicians visiting at least once a week. One plays the guitar and sings songs tailored to his audience or to one particular individual. An opera singer with a wide repertoire visits every month and fills the home with her beautiful voice. Some residents will take the opportunity to sing along or dance to the music.
