A sunflower soaking up the sun in the Wardington House garden.
“Come with me
to visit the sunflowers,
they are shy
but want to be friends;”
(The Sunflower’s by Mary Oliver)
Welcome to Wardington House’s latest newsletter!
Shy? I am sure you would agree that the sunflowers at Wardington House are quite the opposite. And no one is shy in taking a serene stroll down the garden to see their happy, friendly sight or sharing a smile with a friend in the joyous moment they create.
Activities
Some residents certainly were not shy in showing their competitive streaks this month! Whether it has been playing football on the Magic Table (please visit https://social-ability.co.uk/ for more information) or putting our throwing and catching skills to the test the residents have definitely been active.

Wimbledon was a popular sporting competition, with the residents, on the TV this month. The Wimbledon themed coffee morning was also a popular event with some residents devouring the succulent strawberries and cream and others demonstrating their tennis skills confidently bouncy a tennis ball with a racket – watch out Jannik Sinner!

With sport in mind, we were trying to think of a ‘healthy’ treat the residents would enjoy making and the banna splits really did go down a treat!
Not as healthy but certainly a wonderful joyous occasion was a sunny afternoon when the ice cream van visited – made everyone feel like they were a winner!
          Garden Party
The annual Garden Party, on the 6th July, was a delightful occasion as ever! The residents had a lovely time and we hope you did too. Thank you to everyone who came along to join in the fun. The event raised a wonderful £2,642.01 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Emma’s Update – From on her Honeymoon!
“I’ve been out with my camera this month but have swapped the garden flowers of Wardington for the wildlife, lakes and mountains of the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. Normal service will resume next month but in the meantime I hope you enjoy a few of my pictures.”

          The Month Ahead
Emma’s stunning photos from her holiday and the time of year it is, has inspired the theme of ‘Seaside Holidays’ to take place in August – particularly focussing on British seaside locations.
Thank you to everyone who has completed and sent me their family member’s Life Story’s – these will be very helpful in personalising the holiday theme for each resident.
There will be a variety of seaside themed arts and crafts involving sand and shells.
I’m sure the ice cream van will be warmly welcomed back and give us the opportunity to reminisce about eating ice creams at the seaside.
Fish and chips will certainly be on the menu this month as well as a seaside themed afternoon tea.
We haven’t quite got donkeys but the ponies will be visiting again on Tuesday 12th August at 2pm.
A wonderful activity ‘off theme’ this month will be African Drumming with In2Culture, at 2pm on Tuesday 5th August.
The following regular activities will also take place this month: singing with Tristan Pate (weekly) and Katie Holland (monthly); Exercise Classes with Alfie (fortnightly); Bonnie the Dog visits (fortnightly); afternoon tea at Harley Equestrian Cafe (monthly) and in-house Church Services (weekly).
