Easter eggs ‘hiding’ amongst the flowers in the garden ready for the Easter Egg Hunts.
Happy Easter!
We hope it’s egg-cellent!
Welcome to Wardington House’s latest newsletter.
Easter is an ‘egg-citing’ time at Wardington House! The gorgeous grounds and house present themselves perfectly for Easter egg hunting! With Spring in full flow there are lots of colourful flowers and shrubs to try and spot a shiny wrapper through. If the weather isn’t being kind the house is also ideal with lots of little hiding spots. Bring the children along to see how many eggs they can find – please just phone ahead to let us know you are coming, so the hiding can take place.
Activities
Did you know there were two patriot saints celebrations this month – St David’s Day and St Patrick’s Day? We marked both with a coffee morning. The residents enjoyed some wonderful welsh treats on St David’s Day and some bright gorgeous green cup cakes on St Patrick’s day. Then residents also created some St Patrick’s Day themed decorations for the event.

The residents have also been creating other crafts, making paper flowers for our Spring theme then also making clay creations and painting them.

In the middle of the month our theme changed to Science and the residents were intrigued by some of the Science experiments taking place. Some successful, some not, but still interesting, fun and amusing!

Another intriguing observation (not science related ) was how ‘at home’ Lucia’s Tiny farm animals now make themselves! It is such a wonderful sight to see the animals so relaxed and the residents so happy. They really do enjoy each others’ company.

We also had some other furry friends come and visit us who I think would happily make themselves at home in the garden with all the luscious grass! It is always a joy to welcome the ponies, Lolly Pop and Moomin, into the home and seeing the surprised expression on some residents’, visitors’ and staffs’ faces.

The annual Big Breakfast also took place this month. Thank you to everyone who donated, helped and came along. The butties went down a treat, the selection of cakes on sale looked superb and the tombola and raffle are always a bit of fun for everyone. We have currently raised £650.00 for the charity Refuge with donations still coming in!

Emma’s Update
“March started with a sea of yellow. Primroses, daffodils and forsythia all adding to the effect, and glowing like the sunshine we are all longing for. We’ve been tidying up, between storms – more twigs, sticks and small branches than I can count – collecting up leaves like it’s autumn again! The large storm that brought with it hail, thrown at us from an almost horizontal angle, unfortunately felled a tree down at the bottom of our orchard. It is such a shame to lose such an old and majestic tree which had beautiful white flowers in late spring. When the tree surgeons come and tidy it away, I will have a go at counting the rings to work out how old it was.
A tremendous tree blown down in the Orchard.
The tulips are beginning to spring into life all over the garden now and there are so many different varieties to be admired! In the brand-new cutting garden, the first flowers are beautiful frilly white tulips, which I’m so happy to see as the first fruits of much hard labour last year.
Tulips galore in the garden.
Seeds are already germinating for summer cut flowers, these will go into the beds when the tulips are all finished. I know how much the residents love to have the home-grown flowers in the house and hope they will bring much joy. I have felt a sense of guilt cutting flowers from the main garden, as they also bring so much joy to the residents when taking a stroll. However, this new garden is hidden away from the main one which will allow us to cut bucketfuls of flowers without taking away too many from the main garden areas and taking away my guilt! Joy all round!”
The Month Ahead
We will be leaping into Easter at the start of the month with a Children’s Easter Craft Afternoon on Friday 3rd April, 2pm – 3pm. An Easter Coffee Morning will take place on Monday 6th April and the Easter Service on Thursday 9th April at 2pm.
Also amongst the Easter ‘egg-citment’ the Oxford, Cambridge boat race will be taking place. Who will you be cheering on?
With the Easter Bunny probably being the topic of some conversations we will then be carrying on the animal vibe with ‘Pets’ as our theme. As well as Josie the PAT dog doing her usual visits, every other Wednesday afternoon, our outing to Harley Equestrian Cafe, (giving the horses and goats a wave on our way), the Grand National taking place and Lucia’s Tiny Farm visiting on Monday 20th April at 1.45pm, we will also take some residents to visit the local Pet shops.
Please feel free to send me a photo of your pet/s so we can share with the residents and put the photos up in the sitting room.
On Thursday, 23rd April the English flags will be on display as we celebrate St George’s Day. We will be holding a coffee morning then continue the theme of England for the rest of the month – which is also perfect timing with the London Marathon taking place as well.
The following regular activities will also take place this month: singing with Tristan Pate (weekly) and Katie Holland (monthly); Exercise Classes with Alfie (fortnightly); Josie the PAT dog (fortnightly); afternoon tea at Harley Equestrian Cafe (monthly); morning coffee and cake at Wardington Garden Centre (fortnightly); in-house Church Services (weekly) and Pamper Mornings.
We are also looking forward to an afternoon of African Drumming with In2Culture at 2pm on Tuesday, 7th April.
